On Overall Ministry and Funding

Community Aid provides high quality gently used clothing at an affordable price. To their partners, which include churches and nonprofit charitable organizations, they give Care Cards and extend Grant Programs. CCU is a Community Aid Major Partner.

The mission of United Way of the Capital Region is to improve lives in Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties by identifying the most pressing community needs, finding solutions to those needs, and demonstrating how these solutions are making a difference. CCU is a United Way of the Capital Region Program Partner.

CCU works closely with the Dauphin County Commissioners and a variety of Dauphin County offices to provide vital housing and supportive services to those facing homelessness, poverty and incarceration.

On Housing and Homelessness

The Capital Area Coalition on Homelessness “CACH” consists of over 70 organizations that mobilize its resources to help our regions families who are homeless or dangerously close to becoming homeless.

The YWCA is a movement of women working for social and economic change. It advocates for young women’s leadership, peace, justice, human rights and sustainable development, both on a grassroots and global scale.

The Interfaith Shelter, a ministry of Catholic Charities Diocese of Harrisburg, offers help and hope to homeless families in Dauphin, Cumberland and Perry Counties. Their goal is to encourage families and empower them to achieve self-sufficiency.

Shalom House provides temporary shelter for women and children who have nowhere else to go. They provide basic needs: a bed, food clothing, health and hygiene supplies, and a temporary address and telephone number.
On Prison and Re-entry Ministry

Capital Region Ex-Offenders Support Coalition (CRESC) believes that every ex-offender should have access to the services and resources necessary to maintain a productive, crime-free life. They coordinate services that assist ex-offenders with successful re-entry which promotes public safety.

Amiracle4sure seeks transformation during reentry, by equipping individuals with skills to improve their lives after incarceration and substance abuse. Their wide variety of programs offer services to returning citizens, those in recovery, and children who may have been affected in the Harrisburg, PA area.

Yokefellowship Prison Ministries organizes weekly group ministries for inmates and ex-offenders, along with their loved ones, to share and understand the life-transforming truths of God’s Word.

The Lighthouse Outreach Center of Harrisburg is an interdenominational ministry which outreaches to both churched and unchurched women in need of transitional housing.

Friends Over Fences (Family Circle Ministries) is a faith-based organization helping inmates and ex-offenders to be successful members of society by mentoring, training, and helping them them find suitable housing and employment.

The Pride of the Susquehanna Riverboat is an authentic stern-driven paddle wheel riverboat built 30 years ago as a community service project by the Harrisburg Area Riverboat Society for the benefit of and visitors to the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area. CCU coordinates Sunday worship services on the riverboat each summer in partnership with the Harrisburg Area Riverboat Society.
